We just love the iPad!

The Elements

“I give you here the universal catalog of everything you can drop on your foot: These are the building blocks of your world and the basic stuff of all that is here or there or anywhere. Enjoy!” With this text you are greeted by Theodore Gray in the iPad application ‘The Elements‘.

The home screen of the app is a periodical table – the like ever seen before. Each element is represented by a spinning object made by the material – making it hard for the curious ones to decide where to start exploring.

“Touch any element to see more, then go to its second page for rotatable samples and a story or two.”

When selected the spinning object representing the element is shown in high resolution taken up most of the screen. It is truly high quality photo work. The basic facts of the element is given to the right; Atomic Weight, Density, Melting point, ect. Did you perhaps how that 0.0001% of the human body is Copper?

On the second page about the element one finds the stories – the element is described in basic terms blended with humorous facts and stories. More examples of materials made from the element are displayed – which spins when touched, gradually slowing down to a stand still – very cool!

Finally the app is a show case for the iPad – if you’re not a chemist and needs hardcore facts of the elements, you can use the app to show off your iPad – and even learn a little about the basic elements of the world ;-)

‘The Elements’ costs $13.99 in the App Store – link.
